Winter 2016

What's New At Koetting Eye Center?

  • New Instrumentation:Koetting Eye Center is excited to announce the arrival of the iVue Optical Coherence Tomography system to our office. Optical Coherence Tomography, or OCT, is an advanced and sophisticated technology that allows for easy and detailed imaging of a number of structures in the eye. This brief scan can assist our doctors at Koetting Eye Center to better detect, treat and manage glaucoma, macular degeneration and a host of other retinal and ocular problems. This new instrumentation will help us continue to provide the latest in quality eye care for our patients.

  • Doctors in the News:  This past fall Dr. Joe Castellano was inducted as a Fellow in the prestigious American Academy of Optometry at the organization's annual meeting in New Orleans. The meeting draws thousands of doctors from around the globe to hear the latest in ocular research and eye care. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Castellano! Also, this winter we are pleased to announce that Dr. Carmen Castellano will be speaking at the annual Global Specialty Lens Symposium in Las Vegas. This meeting discusses the latest in sophisticated contact lens designs and treatments.

  • Problems with Dry Eyes and Contact Lenses?  Koetting Eye Center is pleased to announce the arrival of 1-Day Acuvue Oasys with HydraLuxe starting in October. This revolutionary new material design features an enhanced network of tear-like molecules that mimic our natural tears and helps keep the lenses feeling moist throughout the day. In addition, the daily disposability ensures you will experience a clean fresh lens every day. And, as an added plus, 1-Day Acuvue Oasys has a UV blocking feature that prevents harmful ultraviolet rays from reaching the natural lens of the eye and the retina. These harmful rays have been associated with the development of cataracts and macular degeneration. Please ask us about this new option next time you're in our office or call us at 314-863-0000.
  • Our New Re-Designed Web Site:  We hope you will take time to explore and navigate through our new re-designed web site. You will learn a great deal about our practice and offerings. From our site you may also reorder contact lenses, shop for prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses, request appointments or access patient forms. There is also an educational video section that can help answer many of your questions about a wide variety of vision and eye health conditions.

  • Revolutionary Protection for Your Eyes: We have long known that excessive exposure to UV light may damage your eyes like it damages your skin, accelerating eye aging and the occurrence of cataract. But did you know thatBlue-Violet light may also be harmful? Though some portions of the Blue-Violet spectrum help regulate your sleep/wake cycle and aid in memory, mood and other brain functions, some other portions may be harmful. Excessive exposure to certain portions of the Blue-Violet spectrum has been associated with increased risk for agerelated macular degeneration. Furthermore, Blue-Violet light is emitted from many modern devices used today such as computers, tablets, LED and compact fluorescent lights. Now there is good news! Crizal Prevencia no glarelenses selectively filter out harmful light while letting good light pass through. These lenses may be used in virtually any prescription and are available in our Eyewear Dispensary. For more information you may call us at 314-863-0000 or ask about Crizal Prevencia at your next visit to our office.
