Holding on to those old eyeglasses? Why not donate them?

Since we have all been spending more time at home lately, a lot of us have had time to go through drawers and closets and realize how much stuff we have accumulated. It is always a good idea to have a spare pair of eyeglasses, and frames can often be re-used with updated prescription lenses if they are in good shape. However, if you have one or more extra pairs of old glasses, sunglasses, or reading glasses cluttering your drawers or cupboards, consider donating them.

Around the world, there are an estimated 2.5 billion people who need glasses but do not have access to or cannot afford routine eyecare. Through programs such as the Lion’s Club International Recycle for Sight, your old glasses can be part of the 30 million pair per year that are distributed to developing countries.

How can you help?

Gather up your old glasses in good condition (no broken frames or missing lenses, please) and bring them to your nearest Koetting Eye Center. We are an authorized collection center for the Lion’s Club Recycle for Sight program and we will gladly pass them along to our local Lion’s Club so that they may give someone in need the gift of sight.
