Eye Drops May Soon Replace Your Reading Glasses

A new treatment may be on the horizon to replace your reading glasses.  An Israeli company is investingating a new eye drop that may temporarily correct presbyopia.  Presbyopia is the process we go through, typically starting in our forties, that causes blurred near vision.  The medication just completed the Phase 2 study with very promising results and will soon begin Phase 3.  The drop works by contracting the muscle that controls the iris, ultimately narrowing the pupil and creating a pinhole effect.  This increases the depth of field, allowing for good vision at all distances, including near.  The effect of the drops is temporary, lasting only a few hours; although, the drops may be used multiple times per day. We are excited about this new research and will continue to follow it through the Phase 3 trials! To see the Forbes article click here.
